Policy

These pages tell you a little more about the revised NAP and its key elements. Below are the key changes in terms of policy and regulation.

Enforcement & penalties

You told us

The enforcement approach and penalties should be clearer and sufficient to incentivise compliance.

Our response

A clearer enforcement framework, including strengthened inspection provisions and measures addressing false or misleading information.

Contribution to Water Framework Directive objectives

You told us

NAP should clearly demonstrate how measures contribute to Water Framework Directive objectives (WFD).

Our response

DAERA explains how the proposed measures support WFD objectives, including reducing nutrient runoff and improving water quality to achieve “good status”.

Policy Interconnection

You told us

NAP cannot be considered as a standalone issue in the context of interconnection with wider environmental policy relating to Ammonia and the Climate Action Plan.

Our response

Recognition of the wider policy landscape in the codesign process, in particular how the operational protocol for planning considerations with regard to ammonia was a key element in unlocking certain measures in the NAP review.
